Convergence occurs when distinct elements come together to form a unified whole. Cohort 18 of Azusa Pacific University's Master of Fine Arts program is composed of six artists, each representing a unique blend of cultures, generations, and creative practices across a wide range of mediums. Though diverse in background and approach, these artists discover moments of harmony where the seemingly unrelated finds connection.
Within these intersections, clarity emerges. Dualities such as the balance between the search for precision through abstraction and the coexistence of joy and sorrow, all give rise to shared truths. Each artist brings their individual voice to this collective conversation, yet together they create something greater than the sum of their parts. Their varied perspectives—spanning different cultural backgrounds, artistic traditions, and generational viewpoints—weave together to form a rich tapestry of human experience.
The works presented here reflect both deeply personal narratives and universal themes that resonate across boundaries. Traditional techniques merge with contemporary innovations, while intimate explorations of identity expand into broader questions about community and belonging. This convergence reveals how artistic practice can serve as both mirror and bridge, reflecting individual experiences while connecting us to shared humanity.
Through their work, these artists invite viewers to reflect on their own inner landscapes, while stepping into the collective shaped by their convergence. The exhibition becomes a space for dialogue between viewer and artwork, between past and present, between the known and the unknown. This exhibition is both a pause and a passage – a space where the material meets the abstract and unity is found through difference.
